The Amana Colonies are a National Historic Landmark featuring over 400 buildings. The trail goes through Amana and Middle Amanas featuring unique museums relating to the history of communal living.

Trail goes through historic residential neighborhoods, the beautiful Iowa State Campus, Reiman Gardens and Butterfly Conservatory.

Trail goes along the Cedar River, past several museums, the city's main library and a carriage house where painter Grant Wood once lived and where he painted "American Gothic.

You will walk along the Mississippi River and through downtown Davenport and the Village of East Davenport passing the Figge Art Museum and the German American Heritage Center.

The trail goes through the Capitol Gardens, around the Capitol and past several war memorials on the Capitol grounds. The walk tours the East Village, downtown and passes the Pappajohn Sculpture Park.

Walk along the Des Moines and Raccoon Rivers and around Gray's Lake. Walk through Gray's Landing, a new development and over two different lighted bridges. A new tunnel connects to Water Works Park.

Well maintained trails allow visitors access to forests, wetlands, prairies, a climbing tower and activity sites. Follow trails along Linn Creek to view wildlife, natural wetland vegetation.

Walk through diverse native ecosystems of tallgrass prairie, oak savanna and sedge meadow. Herds of bison and elk may be seen from the trail as they roam their vast fenced in prairie.

The walk winds through the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site, passing the Presidential Library, Hoover's birthplace and various buildings dating to that time. It also passes many Victorian homes.
