Long description

Daily - Dawn to Dusk. Water/rest rooms available at start point. This is a historical walk which starts in the heart of downtown Fayetteville with turn-of-the-century homes and classic storefront shops on Courthouse Square. It meanders past historic landmarks such as the Holliday-Dorsey house (Doc Holliday of Tombstone Fame was a cousin of Margaret Mitchell). The cemetery is where her ancestors (prototypes of the O'Haras) are buried. Trail goes by the Southern Ground Amphitheater. The trail also goes around the courthouse which until a few years ago was still the oldest continuously serve as a courthouse.

Driving to the start box

140 E Lanier, Fayetteville, GA. Atlanta, I-75 S 8 miles to Exit 237A toward GA 85/Riverdale. Merge on GA-85S, follow almost 13 miles. Fayetteville, take SH54 E (Stonewall-Courthouse Square) 1 block, turn left. Go 1 block, Holiday Inn Express straight ahead. I-85 S, exit 61, or going N exit 47 toward Peachtree City, take SH54 to Fayetteville. After passing SH85 in Fayetteville, take first left as above. Ask for walk box at Front Desk. No problem with parking in parking lot.
