High Bridge is designated a National Recreation Trail recognizing exemplary trails of local and regional significance, connecting people to nature, to each other, and to our shared histories and cultures. Qualifies for VA Counties; Cumberland County. Bring plenty of drinking water because it's not available on the trail. A State Park patch is available at a cost of $7; $5 for the header patch and $2 for the bar. Please annotate on your start card if you desire a patch and include the cost in the cost of the walk. Patch(s) will be mailed. Picture of patch is in signup book.

Event information

After registering at McDonalds, drive short distance to begin walking. Parking fee per vehicle: $5 every day. Virginia State Park Pass honored. High Bridge Trail is 31 miles long and ideally suited for hiking, bicycling and horseback riding. Once a rail bed, the trail is wide, level and generally flat. A finely crushed limestone surface makes it easy for everyone to enjoy. The park's centerpiece is High Bridge, which is more that 2,400 feet long and 125 feet above the Appomattox River. It is the longest recreational bridge in VA and among the longest in the US. High Bridge is a Virginia Historic Landmark and on the National Register of Historic Places.

Driving to the start box

McDonalds Restaurant, 306 South Main Street. FROM: I-295, I-95, I-64: to SR 288. Rt 360 West approx 31 miles to Rt 307 West (Farmville). Travel 9 miles on Rt 307, bear right onto Rt 460, approx 3 miles to Rt 460 Business (1st Farmville Exit), on 3rd Street intersection and MainStreet (6th light) left on Main Street. Approx 1 mile to McDonald's on left (corner of Main Street/Putney Street). Coming from Portsmouth/Chesapeake/Virginia Beach area,travel Rt 460 for a more direct route.
