WARNING: The map pin is for reference only and may not accurately indicate the start box location or the event start.
From Wed, Jan 1st, 2020 to Dec 31st, 2020
Start times: Daily, dawn to dusk.
The entire route follows the Appalachian Trail from Harpers Ferry WV, across the Potomac and then along the South Mountain Ridge to the Mason Dixon Line on the border with Pennsylvania. You may do a through hike southbound or northbound, or an out and back anywhere you have access to the trail.
Distance: 5km-66km, Rating: 3C
The Seneca Valley Sugarloafers charges all participants a $3 fee. The Potomac River divides Maryland and Virginia, but the Maryland-Virginia boundary is next to the Virginia shoreline and not in the middle of the river. Be aware that rain and snow can make footing on the trail treacherous and the summer heat and humidity can be oppressive. We suggest you walk with sturdy boots and trekking poles or a hiking staff. There are no services on the trail so you must carry water and food. Pets are allowed on the Appalachian Trail, but owners must keep pets on leashes six feet or shorter. The trail is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers.
Awards and fees: IVV Credit Only
