Entry fee $7 per person unless you have Texas State Park Pass. Arrive early, park opens at 8:30 and can be very busy. Enchanted Rock was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1970 and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. Check website for limited seasonal "hunting only" or maintenance days.
Distance: 12km/10km/7km/5km, Rating: 3C
Check http://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/enchanted-rock/ for park/office hours and parking availability. The Rock is a huge, pink granite exfoliation dome, which rises 425 feet above ground, 1,825 feet above sea level, and covers 640 acres. It is one of the largest batholiths (underground rock formation uncovered by erosion) in the United States. This event involves hiking on unpaved, granite gravel and rocky terrain. The trail becomes more difficult going between the rocky domes but most of it is on a good hiking path with some steeper areas. Hiking up Enchanted Rock itself is NOT required on either of the routes, but may be added to either for extra 2km credit and a spectacular view of the surrounding countryside. Hiking boots and walking sticks are very important because of the terrain and are required to hike the dome, which may also be slick following rain. Pets are NOT allowed on optional summit.
Awards and fees: IVV Credit Only
