Event comments

The Whaler's Cabin in Whaler's Cove includes information on the whaling industry, local history and movies produced in the Reserve. Docents are also knowledgeable about flora, fauna and scuba diving.

Event information

The trail includes roots, dirt paths and rocks. But if you can navigate a challenging trail, this one has been rated in the top 10 AVA events in the United States! The 10k trail goes around the perimeter of Point Lobos with breathtaking vistas of the Big Sur coastline, rocky seaside and Carmel Bay. The 5k highlights Coal Chute and Whaler's Cove. You may be lucky enough to see otters frolicking in the surf or gray whales spouting on their trip along the coast. There are also non-aquatic wildlife in the reserve.

Driving to the start box

500 Del Monte, Monterey, CA 93940-2405. For directions, see Carmel - Mission. Open M-Sat: 8am-10pm; Sun 10am-10pm. After registering, drive approx 3 miles S on Hwy 1 to Point Lobos State Reserve for walk. There is a charge to park in the reserve or you may park for free on Hwy 1 and walk in. Donations accepted.
