Long description

The Leon Creek Greenway trail starts at the Mainland Trailhead and is well shaded in most areas. Volkssporters will see limestone bluffs, wildflower fields, stands of Cottonwoods and other heritage trees. Wildlife may be seen in the meadows. Leon Creek is normally dry but can fill rapidly during heavy rains. The trail will be temporarily closed when flooded. Drinking water is available at some trailheads. Portable restrooms are available at all trailheads.

The Leon Creek Greenway is part of the Howard W. Peak Greenway Trail System, which is a growing network of developed multi-use and accessible trails. The Leon Creek Greenway consists of concrete and asphalt surfaces and is currently 23 km (14.5 mi) in length, with several connector trails linking other parks together in the trail system. This event uses the section of trail between the Mainland Trailhead and Military Drive Trailhead. Much of the Leon Creek Greenway trail is within the Leon Creek flood plain with numerous creek crossings. The trail will be temporarily closed when flooded. The trail may briefly have standing water or mud afterwards in spots. Texas Special Programs: Walk Texas
