Walk the Rockerville end of the 1880 Flume Trail. The Black Hills gold rush was booming in 1880 when placer gold was discovered near Rockerville. Gold processing was hampered by the lack of water until the Black Hills Placer Mining Company constructed a flume to carry water from Spring Creek. This was a massive engineering project that involved the construction of 17.5 miles of canals and troughs, digging two tunnels and the construction of trestles that were up to 80 feet high. Old parts of the wooden flume can still be seen along the route. The trail is in the Black Hills National Forest.
