Event information

Trails are accessible 24 hours/day but the start point's hours of operation are: May through September - Wed to Sunday, 10 am-5 pm; closed Mon and Tue. October through April - Fri to Sun, 10 am-5 pm; closed Mon - Thu. Closed on most major holidays. Call 907-694-2108 to verify. Indoor restroom and water available at nature center only. At the log cabin Nature Center, ask for the "walk box" at the staffed front desk. This moderately challenging walk is on well-maintained natural surface trails within Chugach State Park and meanders through a river valley shaded by cottonwoods and birch and bordered by picturesque mountains. Enjoy walking a portion of the original Iditarod Trail and seeing glacial-fed Eagle River, moose or bear along the trail or beavers in ponds. Trails have wooden posts with mounted "you are here" maps at every intersection. Remote sections of trail are marked with metal trail markers. Expect snow October through March but trails are usually packed down so snowshoes are seldom needed. Walkers may walk Albert Loop trail for 5km credit, or walk full route for 10km credit. Walk is rated 2C; a moderate trail with some hills. Not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Bring your own snack and water. Dogs welcome but must be leashed and picked up after.

Awards: IVV CREDIT ONLY
