Event comments

Trailhead parking areas can sometimes fill to capacity from mid-morning to early afternoon during the summer season, resulting in parking along the roadway. If you want to park within the parking area, plan to arrive earlier or later in the day. Registration is open 8AM - Noon, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Registration at the Cle Elum Hardware Store is about 1 hour from the trailheads. Participants can choose to register, obtain map and directions, and stamp books for all the hikes at one time. We hope this registration schedule will provide the most flexibility to our participants, as well as to give our volunteers a chance to meet you on the trails! More Great Local Walking Opportunities: Central Washington Sun Striders offers 24 scenic walks in the surrounding counties, 10 of the walks are within an hour of Cle Elum. For details check ava.org, then click Event Search/Club/Search by state or club name/Washington/Central Washington Sun Striders. Free participants are welcome but all must register. Event information

New hike! Day hiking the Teanaway region is a special adventure that is often overlooked by Washington inhabitants; except the locals, who know the hour-long scenic drive to the trailhead is part of the adventure. This is one of three hikes offered over three days in the North Fork of the Teanaway River basin. Easiest of the three hikes, this 11K trail features incredible wildflower meadows, with more than 75 varieties of wildflowers, and shady old pine forests. Views of dark and craggy Esmeralda Peak, and a pleasant spot for a break at barren Fortune Creek Pass, elevation 5960 ft, with its view of several mountain peaks. After less than a 1K steep start, this 3C rated, well maintained trail continues, with moderate elevation gain and long easy switchbacks, to gain 1750 ft over 5+ kilometers; thus allowing the soul to thoroughly enjoy the cool and shaded pine and larch forests and high wildflower meadows of the Teanaway country. Federal Interagency or NW Forest Pass or day-use fee required for parked vehicles. Porta-potties and pit toilets at trailhead. Please check club website, fourplushikers.weebly.com, for alerts and updates.
