Event information

Stigler is the county seat of Haskell County not far from Lake Eufala and Lake Kerr. It was founded by Joseph Stigler who was a Deputy Marshall and originally named the town Newman for his friend Doctor Newman, an early Indian Territory physician. Because he was the postmaster, Stigler realized there was much confusion over the mail being mishandled for nearby Norman, Oklahoma, so in 1893 the town name became Stigler. On the grounds of the courthouse is a log cabin which was once the place where men signed up for the draft in World War I and II. Now it is the Stigler Chamber of Commerce. There are Veteran's memorials on the courthouse lawn and down Main Street. Ask the start desk about the special one near the log cabin!
