Event comments

7 miles from Oklahoma, Gainesville was founded in 1850. Early growth came from supplying cattle drives as they headed north. Secondary growth came as railroad brought supplies to ranchers and farmers. Soldiers trained at Camp Howze during WWII.

Event information

Walks pass 1910 Cooke County Courthouse, the Morton Museum of Cooke County (learn about Camp Howze and the Gainesville Community Circus), the historic Santa Fe Station and Depot Museum (the station is still in use by Amtrak), and the new Farmers Market. Beautiful, well-kept, historic homes demonstrate Gainesvilles wealh from the 1880's to 1930's.
