Event comments

The Philadelphia Navy Yard has been at this location since 1876. It's most active production was during WWII when 53 warships were built and 1,218 were repaired. The walk goes through the "Historic Core" passing buildings built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Also walk past the John F. Kennedy aircraft carrier that was overhauled here in 1996 and has been here since 2008. Another highlight is the Chapel of the Four Chaplains, dedicated to the four men who sacrificed their lives in order to save others during the sinking of the USAT Dorchester in 1943. After walking through the Navy Yard, the walk continues into FDR Park, goes around the lake and passes the famous Boathouse and Olmstead Pavillion.
