Fort Davis National Historic Site along Texas Highways 17 - 118 is considered perhaps the best preserved of all the 19th Century frontier forts and one of the best preserved "Buffalo Soldier" forts in the west. The site is well maintained with interpretive and historical displays. Partially and fully restored buildings are scattered throughout the 523 acre grounds. Admission fee; bring National Parks Pass for free or discounted admission. Closed Thanksgiving, Dec. 25, Jan. 1 and MLK, Jr. Day. Pets not permitted in the public buildings of the site.

Event information

Most of the walk is on paved or dirt paths. The Nature Trail portion of the 10K walk does have an elevation into the foothills, and this is rated 2C.

Driving to the start box

There is no walk box. Directions available via email: gary.petersen@mygrande.net. After receiving the walk directions via email, the walk starts at the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce, located at #4 Memorial Square(On the South side of the Square across from the Courthouse).
