Event comments
Starting at the trailhead of the Raccoon River Recreation Trail and the Greene County freedom rock, the route walks through a small, rural Iowa town with lots of shops, restaurants, and quiet neighborhoods. You will pass the Mahaney Carillon Tower which provides a view of several roof-top murals and the surrounding countryside. The Gallup House is the birthplace and boyhood home of Dr. George Gallup, the father of public opinion polling. Jefferson is bisected east to west by the old Lincoln Highway. The walk is part of the Iowa Counties Program, Greene County.

The walk is dawn to dusk, however, if you want to visit the Mahaney Bell Tower, the hours are 10-4 daily.
