Event comments
The walk thru the Alpine Village, one of the top tourist attractions in the state, and along beautiful mountain trails with views of local springs, streams, and small waterfalls. Walk 10K mid-point is at Unicoi State Park conference center where a checkpoint will be located and restrooms available.Many, many special event are planed following the 5k or 10K walk in the style of a Bavarian Volksmarch. Since Alpine Helen is a German-style town the heavily supports the German and Austrian cultures, this walk will be very similar to Voilksmarches (i.e. WALKS or Hikes) in Germany and Europe.

5-10K WALK EVENT DATE: 4-27-2024 START LOCATION: Bodensee German Resturant 64 Munich Strasse, Helen, Georgia 30545. Register and start anytime between 8:00– 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2024Walk registration and start at AVA registration table in the Biergarten of Bodensee. The 5K/10K walk is on established trails in hilly terrain passing by beautiful mountain streams and accessible for walkers and leashed dogs. The Trail rating is 3C. An additions 5k "easy walk" on sidewalks and flat paved trails to Hardman Farm and back is rated 1A. Fee: $3.00 Walk or $8.00 Walk and Award Pin 2024 Huge prize drawing at the end of the walk, German food and music......great fun for everyone! Walkers registering for the $8.00 pin also receive 1 free ticket for drawings, 1 free ticket for food, and 2 free tickets for German bier (if over 21 yers old). This years top prize for the drawing at 2:00pm is a $750.00 Black Forrest cuckoo clock!THIS PROMISES TO BE THE BIGGEST AND BEST VOLKSMARCH IN THE USA THIS YEAR!!!

Driving to the start
Helen is located in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains about 70 miles north of Atlanta, GA. Registration at Bodensee German Resturant Biergarten on 64 Munich Strasse in Helen, GA (see map) beginning at 8:00 EDT with a 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. start. Following the walk, special door Prizes (drawing for beer steins, gift certificates at local restaurants, t-shirt, gift baskets, etc) for AVA WALK participants and Traditional German music & food is available. This year over $3,500 in gifts for the drawing were donated by local Helen businesses. Each walker will receive one free ticket. Additional tickets can be purchased.
