Event comments

This event consists of two separate out and backs along this portion of the old Milwaukee Railroad Right of Way which is now the Palouse to Cascades State Park Rail Trail. The westbound portion goes through the 3 1/2K Hyak tunnel for an experience unlike most other walks. Bring a good flashlight, replacement batteries and warm attire as the tunnel is quite dark and cool inside. Just past the west portal of the tunnel is a great view of the Cascades and I-90 down below in the South Fork Snoqualmie river valley. You then turn around and return back through the tunnel for an 8K walk. The eastbound 5K and 10K go along Keechelus Lake with views of the lake and the Cascade Mountains.

Event information

Washington State Discover Pass required to park in the state park parking lot. One day ($5) vehicle passes are available for purchase in the parking lot. Vault toilets are available in the parking lot. Pets allowed if on leash. The tunnel is 3 1/2K each way. Temps in the tunnel are very cool so dress accordingly and bring good flashlights and batteries as the tunnel is unlit and is quite dark. Recommend good hiking shoes for the tunnel portion as some of the walking surface consists of loose gravel.
