Danvers, once called Salem Village, was settled by Puritans in 1626 to provide farm products and lumber to Salem port; in 1692 it became the epicenter of Witchcraft Hysteria (19 persons executed); in 1752 separated from Salem and named Danvers. Principle industries included shipbuilding, brick making and later carpet weaving, leather tanning & shoe making. Now, it boasts headquarters of various tech companies. Both trails pass Rebecca Nurse House and Witchcraft Victims Memorial.

Driving to the start box
15 Sylvan St, Danvers, MA 01923From North: I-95 South to exit 68; left on Centre St; bear left at fork onto Holten St straight thru lights to 4-way stop, right onto Sylvan St and right into library parking across from Holy Trinity Church. From South: I-95 North bearing left onto Rte 128 at exit 64; continue to exit 41; right onto Endicott St; straight to Sylvan St; right onto Sylvan St and after passing pond, take 2nd left into parking lot of cream-colored Library. Additional parking available on other side of lot along Peabody & Pond Sts.
