Event information
Enjoy a walk on the Fort Loudoun trail system with views of the Tennessee River. Travel back in time by visiting Fort Loudoun, a British fort from the French and Indian War era (1756-1760) reconstructed where it originally stood. Walk during a Garrison Weekend and experience living history re-enactors in costume at the fort. The 10 km walkers travel to the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum. Sequoyah (1776-1843) was a father, soldier, silversmith, statesman, and creator of the Cherokee writing system. The museum is operated by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, and the nominal admission fee goes toward the mission of promoting the understanding and appreciation of the history and culture of the Cherokee Indians in Eastern Tennessee, particularly the life and contributions of Sequoyah. Walk along the shores of Tellico Lake to enjoy this park dedicated to preserving the history of Ft Loudoun and its role in the French and Indian War. Built in 1756, it is one of the earliest British fortifications on the western frontier.
