See monuments to the enormous construction and scientific efforts by 75,000 workers to build the "Secret City" and develop the atomic bomb for the Manhattan Project to end WW II. See the Friendship Bell symbolizing peace & friendship shared by Japan and Oak Ridge. Walk through neighborhoods and historic Jackson Square. Oak Ridge is part of Manhattan Project National Historical Park. If interested, take a 3-hour bus tour of Project/Park related sites, including the Graphite Reactor at Oak Ridge National Lab (included in museum price). Call museum (865)294-4531 for seasonal tour dates. Museum is open Sun-Mon 1pm-5pm, T-W-Th Sat 9 am-5pm, Fri 9am-8pm, Sat 9am-5pm, closed Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Day.

how to get to the event

Driving to the start box

300 S Rutgers Ave, Oak Ridge 37830. From I-40 W Exit 376-A, Pellissippi Pkwy/Hwy 162. Hwy 162 becomes Highway 62 after about 8 miles. Crossing the Solway Bridge, bear left lane, continue to Oak Ridge. The road becomes Illinois Ave. Turn right onto Rutgers Ave. and follow it to Townplace Suites on your left.
