Sierra County was formed from parts of Yuba County in 1852. The county derives its name from the Sierra Nevada.

Hike on natural desert trails. Be on the lookout for desert wildlife and ancient petroglyphs. A wet winter in the desert makes for prime viewing of desert wildflowers in the spring.
