Long description

The trail follows the old flume beds with interpretive descriptions. Walk across dam to spillway. Walk through two tunnels. There is no entrance fee to enter the trailhead. The Flume Trail is listed as a National Recreation Trail. The Gold Rush was booming in 1880 when placer gold was discovered near Rockerville. A flume was constructed to divert water from Spring Creek. There are 17.5 miles of canals and troughs

Driving to the start

Take Hwy 385 from Hill City to South Sheridan Lake Campground on right. Go though the entrance gate and follow signs for Flume Trail Calumet Trailhead.
