Event comments

Culpeper was founded in 1759 on land surveyed by a young George Washington. During the Civil War the town served as a supply hub for Confederate and Union troops with many battles and skirmishes nearby. The uniqueness of this walk results from the emphasis Culpeper places on preserving historic buildings and landmarks from each era of its history. There are many interesting street scapes. Walk historic streets of Culpeper including National Cemetery and Yowell Meadow Park. Route is mostly on sidewalks and paved pathways. Several interesting restaurants in vicinity of start/finish.
