TRAVELING GUIDED WALK with a 30-minute start window. Explore a road used by Washington's army with Rochambeau. Pass through an area used to train spies and special operations Army personnel in WWII. Enjoy scenic wooded trails along streams. Watch for pileated woodpeckers and the occasional eagle.

Event information

TRAVELING GUIDED WALK with a 30-minute start window. It is "National Walking Day." We will walk trails not used for the club's year round event at this location, concentrating on the Rochambeau Road and the Potomac Heritage Trail. Trails are a mix of paved roads and natural surface. Trails that are natural surface may be muddy in spots. Sturdy hiking shoes a must; hiking poles strongly recommended. Insect repellant and sunscreen useful. ENTRANCE FEE: $20/vehicle, valid 7 consecutive days OR National Parks Pass.

Driving to the start

Park Entrance Road, Triangle, VA (GPS: LAT: 38 33 35 N LONG: 77 20 51 W), (703) 221-7181. From the North on I-95: Exit 150B, bear right on Joplin Rd. (SR-619). Follow signs to Prince William Forest Park. Entrance on right. Just before Visitor Center (VC), turn into parking lot for Pine Grove Picnic Area. Park close to restroom building. From the South on I-95: Exit 150, bear left to Joplin Rd. (SR-619). Left on Joplin, pass under I-95 overpass to Park entrance on right, to Pine Grove Picnic Area. Park entrance fee collected at entrance station or VC (or National Parks Pass).
