Madisonville is halfway between Houston and Dallas. The county was formed in 1853 and is named for James Madison, the 4th President of the United States. The present courthouse was built in 1970. Madisonville is home to one of the largest mushroom production facilities in the country and you’ll find mushroom statues around town. Buc-ee’s is nearby, just off Interstate 45 as you exit to come into town. The Madison County Museum is open 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
