Event comments

Join us on Sunday, October 1st for this one-day event. To honor the first blast 75 years ago, Crazy Horse Memorial is waiving the regular admission fee for the day if each participant bring 3 cans of food to donate to the Care and Share Food Drive (part of the Feeding South Dakota Initiative). A reduced admission fee to Crazy Horse Memorial will be charged if participants forget their cans. Follow the signs and directions of Crazy Horse staff to park were they direct you. We recommend that you leave your dogs at home (or at your car with adequate ventilation and water) as they are not allowed on the trail.. As you leave your car remember to bring with you $3.00 per participant to pay the walking fee. We are sorry that we cannot accept credit cards, but there is an ATM inside the main buildings . Also you are encouraged to bring your AVA/IVV event and distance books (we will have some at the finish tent in case you forget) good hiking shoes, walking sticks, sunscreen, and water. There will be water available at the checkpoints along the way as well as porta-johns. In the event of lightning, the trail will be cleared of all walkers by Crazy Horse staff. We are sorry but do to expenses, no refunds will be available, and if the staff re-opens the mountain later you will resume your walk at the starting gate. The best bet for completing the walk in inclement weather is to start early as lightning storms occur more frequently was the temperatures warm. The registration table opens at 7 am, but walkers do not start walking until all groups working this event are in place and ready. This fall we are offering both a 5k and a 10k option to the top of the arm of the Crazy Horse Monument.
