Event comments
The Hoosier Hikers will celebrate the 2023 National Volkssporting Month with walk and cycling events in historic Crown Point, Indiana. The cycling routes will be on the paved Erie Lackawanna Rail-Trail. The 12-K route takes you to US 30 and back. The 21-K route takes you to the Ivan Gatlin Nature Preserve, where you will observe a qualifer for the Par for the Course Special Program, in Schererville, Indiana, and back. Both bike routes along the Erie Lackawanna Rail-Trail are sure to entice all adventureous Volkssporters with the abundance of natural beauty during the late Fall in rural Lake County.

Event information
1) "A" Award is the 2023 patch for National Volkssporting Month. Cost, which includes IVV Credit, on day of event is $10. Award quantity is limited. Pre-registration available. Contact POC for pre-registration information prior to October 15. 2) Public restrooms may not be available on the day of the event at the start, but may be available along the walk routes. 3) Portions of the walk routes may have sparse overhead cover. Recommend having head cover and carrying water along the route. 4) Weather on day of event may be unsettled. Be prepared for rain, sleet or snow, but hope for the better.

Driving to the start
The registration and start/finish point for the bike route is the Erie-Lackawanna Trail-Summit Street Trailhead, 299 West Summit St, Crown Point, Indiana 46307. From the intersection of US 30 and State Route 55 (Taft Street) turn South onto SR 55 (Taft Street). At the intersection of SR 55 and West Summitt Street (there is a Walgreens on your right)turn right onto Summitt. You will see the trailhead on your right, just on the other side of the Walgreens. The Start/Finish Point will be identified by Volkssporting signage and banners.
