Event comments
The New Braunfels Public Library began in 1928 by a group of concerned New Braunfels residents who committed to starting a library in New Braunfels, but had no home for the library. It's first home was in a space of Harry Landa's store. For 10 years the library struggled to find space for its growing number of books. In 1938, through efforts of the Sophienburg Museum and Emmie Seele Faust, the Library built found a new home for the next 30 years. In the 1960's, the library outgrew its home. Again the city and some residents came to the rescue and built a bigger library on land right in back of the Emmie Seele Faust Library. The new library was called the Dittlinger Memorial Library. Fast forward 30 years and the library had once again outgrown its building. On Oct. 16, 1999, the new public library opened at its present location as the New Braunfels Public Library. This library shares a neighborhood with a diverse demographic The present location is across the street from the Comal County Fairgrounds and near the Comal Cemetery and St. Peter and Paul Cemetery. The Comal Cemetery was designated as a Historic Texas Cemetery by the Texas Historic Commission in 2000. Nearby is beautiful Cypress Bend Park. The Guadalupe River flows near the library and is a popular tubing spot in the summer. There are several residential areas that are adjacent to the river.
