Event comments

There are restrooms and water at the start and along the trail. The bridge is currently closed and waiting for approval to get the needed repairs. The Corps of Engineers said it's possible it will be open again by March 23. There is also a scheduled Civil War reenactment that day which will add some additional fun.

Event information

Knights Ferry Covered Bridge is in the Sierra Foothills. The 130+ year old bridge is the longest covered bridge West of the Mississippi. An information center and museum is along the trail as we trek through and around the small community of Knights Ferry. The historical covered bridge, grist mill and jail and other historical buildings also can be seen along our walking trail. Added bonus is a Civil War reenactment.

how to get to the event

Driving to the start

17968 Covered Bridge Rd., Oakdale, CA 95361. Follow Hwy. 99 South of Stockton to Exit #242, Yosemite Ave., Hwy 120 EAST. Left on Yosemite Ave. Hwy 120 EAST and continue through Manteca toward Escalon and Oakdale. Stay on Hwy 120 East as it turns left at Oakdale and meets up with Hwy 108. Continue on Hwy. 120/108 through Oakdale about 10 miles to Kennedy Rd. Sign on right points to left turn on to Kennedy Rd. Follow Kennedy Rd. to Sonora Rd. Left on Sonora Rd. to 1st parking lot on right BEFORE the Sonora Rd. bridge. Turn right into parking lot for Knights Ferry Recreation Area. Look for "AVA WALK" sign.
