Hopkinton is located 26 miles west of Boston and was incorporated as a town in 1715. The town takes pride in its role as the starting point for the Boston Marathon.Two 5km loops comprise the 10km distance. Those choosing to walk a total of 5km may walk either loop. Be sure to take a look at the labyrinth located to the left of the church. Walking it is optional.Downtown Loop: Leaves St. Paul’s and heads east along Main Street, passing the library, many small shops, the marathon starting line and through the Town Common (checkpoint) before continuing through residential neighborhoods, passing Barbara Kimball’s house, and back to St. Paul’s.Center Trail Loop: Leaves St. Paul’s to the wide, flat, wooded, 1.5-km Center Trail, the Hopkinton School complex, which serves as the athlete’s village for the Boston Marathon, and Hopkinton Arts Center (checkpoint) before going through residential neighborhoods back to St. Paul’s.Since the Soup Social is a highlight of this event, we are staggering the start times so that walkers finish shortly before the soup is served at noon. If you do not wish to stay for soup, you are nonetheless invited to join the walk event (and 5 km walkers may start at any time). With soup being served at noon, you are invited to join fellow walkers for this social gathering. If you would like to contribute an appetizer, soup, bread or dessert, please notify Mary at mfwalks2010@verizon.net. Note that it is not necessary to bring anything other than your smiling face, an appetite and perhaps your favorite soup bowl and spoon. Beverages and paper goods will be provided.

Event information

Both the 5 & 10km routes start at St. Paul’s Episcopal, taking different routes through residential neighborhoods: the Downtown Loop (5km) goes to the Town Common (checkpoint) and the starting line of the Boston Marathon, and the Center Trail Loop (5km) traverses a walking trail, passes the school complex that is used as the athlete's village for the Marathon, and Hopkinton Arts Center (checkpoint). The Soup Social begins at Noon.

Driving to the start

61 Wood Street (Rt. 135) Hopkinton, MA 01748. Driving Directions: From I-495 N or S, Exit 54A (Main Street Hopkinton). Go approximately 1/8th-mile to first stoplight and turn LEFT. Take immediate RIGHT (onto Elm St) and follow to end (about 1/4 mile), where it T's into Wood St (Rt. 135). LEFT onto Wood St., St. Paul's is 1/8th mile on the left. From Rt. 9 westbound, follow Rt. 9 to Rt. 85 exit in Southboro. Take Rt. 85 south approximately 5 miles to intersection with Rt. 135 in the center of Hopkinton. *RIGHT onto Rt. 135. At first stoplight (just past Hopkinton Lumber), bear to RIGHT (still Rt. 135) headed toward Westborough. St. Paul's is 1/2 mile on the left. From Rt. 135 westbound, St. Paul's is located about a mile west of Hopkinton center (intersection 135 & 85). Follow from * above.
