Event comments

Willamette Heritage Center focuses on the history of the Mid-Willamette Valley. On its 5+ acre campus, there are 14 historic structures with exhibits including the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill. There are also retail shops and art galleries plus the Taproot Café. Admission fees will be waived on May 4.

The two 5k loops are on paved sidewalks through nearby neighborhoods inhabited for generations by workers at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill, the site of Willamette Heritage Center, https://www.willametteheritage.org/. Their Sheep to Shawl annual free event includes mill tours, sheep shearing, fiber arts demonstrations, food and entertainment and is from 10 AM to 4 PM. Driving to the start

Willamette Heritage Center, 1313 Mill St SE, Salem, OR 97301, 503-585-7012. I-5, exit 253, Right (southbound), Left (northbound), follow signs to OR22/City Center on Mission St. Take ramp on right for OR22. Right at first traffic light on 12 Street. Right on Mill St to WHC but street parking only. Don't park in WHC lot. Registration at the right of WHC gate. From 99W: east on OR22, enter Salem downtown via Center St bridge, Right on High St, Left on State, Right on 12th, Left on Mill St. Street parking only. Don't park in WHC lot. Registration at the right of WHC gate. Look for walk sign.
