Independence is a small town but has a lot to offer in this walk. Located by the Willamette River, there are spectacular river views in its historic downtown. Inspiration Garden is not to be missed.

The airpark residential area near the airport is worth visiting afterwards to see houses with garages being airplane hangars. Event information
Independence is about 15 miles west of downtown Salem. Start point also for Monmouth YRE. No restroom at start point but McDonald's nearby. 5k/10k year-round routes through this small river town's residential/ downtown National Historic District & scenic Riverview Park by Willamette River. Attractive all-season Inspiration Garden run by Master Gardeners is on both routes. Three other nearby YRE's: Dallas (10 miles NW) & 2 in McMinnville (28 miles north).

Hi-School Pharmacy, 1357 Monmouth St, Independence, OR, (503)838-2047. FROM I-5, exit 253 to Salem City Center. Follow signs to OR22 West. Right lane on Front St to ramp up to cross bridge; 5 1/2 miles on OR22 before left on OR51 South to Independence. Right on Monmouth St to Central Plaza Center at 13 St on left. FROM 99W east on Main St at traffic light in Monmouth to go to Independence. Right at 2nd traffic light at Gun Club Rd (by McDonald's) to Start Point. Ask for zippered binder at the registers stored under the counter. Payment to be sent to club.
