Some significant hills & elevation gain. A significant part of the walk is on pavement with very few obstacles. Register at Town Hardware & General Store in Black Mountain and drive about 2 miles to walk start at the stone Montreat Welcome Arch. Relax and daydream a little as you stroll beautiful Montreat. You just might transport yourself back in time to an early 1900’s vacation retreat. Walk by quaint and picturesque homes/cottages from the early 1900’s. Enjoy the picturesque views which accent the area and surrounding mountains. Meander through Montreat College. While on the college grounds you can stop at the chapel to view a fresco, “The Prodigal Son”, by famed artist Ben Long. Toward the finish of the walk you’ll go by Lake Susan dam that has a soothing spillway. The last KM or two you’ll amble alongside Flat Creek with its foot path. After the walk, stop in Black Mountain for tasty eats, treats, quaint window displays and one of a kind shopping. Relax in one of the numerous artfully decorated rocking chairs along the streets of the little town that rocks.

103 West State St. Black Mountain 28711 828-669-7723 From I-40 take exit 64. Travel north on NC-9 (Broadway St) to intersection of US-70 (State Street). Town Hardware is the first store on your left at the corner of Broadway and State Street. Parking is available throughout the downtown area.
