Event comments
This is an extended distance walk but at the starting point you will be given directions for recommended 10k and 5k options if you don't want to walk a 22k. There will be lots of photo opportunities for flora and fauna. Dogs must be leashed to protect both you and them from the bison you might encounter along the trails. The Lost Trails section qualifies for Par for the Course (playground by the swimming beach).

Driving to the start
The Custer State Park Visitor's Center is on Hwy 16A on the eastern side of Custer State Park. From Rapid City take HWY 79 south to Hwy 36 West, to 16A into Custer State Park. This the park's free weekend so no state park sticker is required to enter the park. All dogs must be on leash. The 22K starts at the Visitor's Center to the Creekside Trail. This trail leads to the Grace Coolidge Campground (5k) where you continue across 16A to the Grace Coolidge Walk-in Fishing area; then continue on the Lost Trail by Center Lake. This trail starts at the parking lot and there are two sections to the trail; one is around the lake (Lake Loop) and the other heads up to an overlook beside the parking area (Upper Loop) which starts next to the trailhead sign and map. Return to start on the same trails.
