Event comments
Step back in time with this walk through historic Bedford, PA, a town rich in colonial and early American history. Founded in the mid-18th century, Bedford played a key role during the French & Indian War, with Fort Bedford serving as a critical frontier outpost. The fort protected settlers and was a vital military base during conflicts in the region. Later, Bedford was famously visited by George Washington during the Whiskey Rebellion, a pivotal moment in early U.S. history that tested the young nation's authority. The walk also passes the elegant Omni Bedford Springs Resort, known for its mineral springs and historic architecture dating back to the 1800s. Once a favorite retreat for presidents and dignitaries, the resort combines natural beauty with luxury and history. The route mainly follows sidewalks and road shoulders through quiet residential neighborhoods, offering a peaceful way to explore Bedford's heritage. While some sidewalks lack curb cuts, the walk provides a fascinating glimpse into a town that has preserved much of its colonial-era charm.
