Event comments
This walk along the York Heritage Rail Trail from US-30 to Grantley Road offers a rich mix of history, culture, and city life. Beginning near the northern trailhead, the route blends Rail Trail paths with city sidewalks, leading you past WellSpan Park, home of the York Revolution baseball team, and into the heart of downtown. Along the way, discover the Colonial Courthouse, where the Continental Congress met in 1777-78 and adopted the Articles of Confederation, making York the temporary capital of the United States. Stroll past the lively Central Market (open most Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays), a community hub since 1888, and the historic theaters of the Appell Center for the Performing Arts. Pause in Continental Square, York's historic center for over 250 years, and reflect at the Korean War Memorial and other monuments honoring local service. The route reveals York's industrial past through restored brick factories now serving new purposes, while public art and murals bring fresh color to the city's streets. Ending to turn around at Grantley Road near York College, this walk offers a true taste of York's history, community, and resilience in just a few scenic miles.
