Event comments

Starting at historic Brillhart Station, once a key stop along the Northern Central Railway, this section of the York Heritage Rail Trail offers a scenic and historic journey south. Much of the walk follows a nearby creek, adding peaceful water views as you pass farm fields, woodlands, and wetlands rich with wildlife. A highlight of the route is the Howard Tunnel, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the second oldest active rail tunnel in the United States. Built in 1838 and still in use today, the tunnel's brick-lined interior is short enough to walk through without a flashlight, offering a unique glimpse into 19th-century engineering. Combining natural beauty, rural landscapes, and rail history, this walk is a memorable step back in time along one of York County's most treasured trails.
