Event comments
Starting at Hanover Junction, this walk follows the York Heritage Rail Trail through a landscape rich in history and scenery. Hanover Junction was the site of a Civil War skirmish between Confederate cavalry and Union state militia, and its restored station recalls its importance as a rail hub in the 19th century. Heading north, the trail leads through the charming borough of Seven Valleys, founded in the mid-1800s and named for the many valleys converging in the area. Once a busy stop on the Northern Central Railway, the town grew with the arrival of the railroad and local industry. Along the way, the route passes farm fields and woodlands, offering a peaceful backdrop to this walk through York County's storied past.

Event information
The walk box is on the front porch, under a bench, and is accessible at all times. Start time dawn to dusk. There are restrooms at the Hanover Junction train station. Easy walk on the York Heritage Rail Trail from Hanover Junction access area north to Glatfelters Station access area and back.

Driving to the start box
90 Indian Rock Dam Rd., York, PA17403 (717)741-3485. From north or south take I-83 to exit 14, the Leaders Heights exit. Turn left off ramp if coming from south, right if coming from north, onto Leaders Heights Rd., PA 182. West: proceed to S. George St (the road name changes to Indian Rock Dam Rd). Proceed on Indian Rock Dam Road. The Farm Store is then a half mile on the left. You will register here and drive 10 miles to the start point.
