Event comments

This easy walk on the York Heritage Rail Trail begins at the Railroad access area and heads south through Railroad, PA, a small borough incorporated in 1871 and named for its role as a key stop on the Northern Central Railway. The route continues to New Freedom, once a thriving railroad and agricultural hub, now home to shops, cafés, and railroading heritage displays tied to the Northern Central Railway. The walk ends at the Mason-Dixon Line, the historic 1760s boundary separating Pennsylvania and Maryland, long seen as a cultural and political dividing line in American history. This scenic stretch offers a mix of small-town charm, rail history, and a touch of national significance.
