Event comments
For a unique look at the less-traveled Southern Presidio, start at the historic Main Post Visitors Center. Walk along the bay to (and under!) the Golden Gate Bridge. Look out over the vast Pacific Ocean and walk through Ft Scott, former coast artillery hdqtrs. Step into the heart of the Presidio and its historic army housing still in use. See the former Public Health Service Hospital, its anonymous cemetery, the 1895 Presidio Golf Course, the inspiring National Cemetery, eucalyptus-shrouded trails, Andy Goldsworthy's The Spire, and stunning views of Alcatraz and Angel Island.

Driving to the start box
210 Lincoln Blvd. From the No. and the Golden Gate Bridge, take the Presidio exit. Turn right onto Girard Rd (1st light)and right onto Lincoln, 2 blks - V.C. on right. From E by Lombard (Hwy 101), enter Lombard Gate,right at Letterman Dr, right at Presidio Blvd/Lincoln Blvd, straight at 3-way stoplight (Girard Rd), 2blks - V.C. on the right. From So, 280 (left lanes exit to 19th Ave) via 19th Ave/Park Presidio. Continue to 101, taking the 1st exit to SF, then next exit to the Presidio. Turn right onto Girard Rd (1st light)and right onto Lincoln, 2 blks - V.C. on right.
