Event comments
In May 1775, just weeks after Lexington and Concord, Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold led a surprise attack with the Green Mountain Boys and captured the fort from its small British garrison - without firing a shot. Over the winter, Henry Knox hauled Crown Point and Fort Ti cannon 300 miles to Boston, where they helped drive the British out in March 1776. In 1777, British General Burgoyne recaptured Fort Ti, but was later defeated at Saratoga, the "turning point of the revolution." THERE IS A $28 FEE (OR $20 GROUP RATE) to enter the Fort Ti grounds, which includes many programs throughout the day, a tour of the Kings Gardens, as well as a token worth $10 to drive up Mount Defiance with its incomparable views. A 5k walk starts from the Log House Welcome Center and proceeds through the Fort and the Kings Garden, then meanders along Sandy Redoubt to the Ticonderoga Ferry and back. The 10k walk covers the 5k route, the Sandy Redoubt exit road and includes credit for participating in the Fort Ti programs and viewing the exhibits.
