Event comments
Sloping uphill from the start point through aspen groves, the trail then descends to an old logging road. Ruins of an old gold mine, headframes and buildings are visible. Mining was from 1920 into the 1940s; the mine shut down to help the war efforts of WWII.

Driving to the start
Travel south from Rapid City 21 miles on US Highway 16. Signage will be visible on your right. This is also a trailhead for the Centennial Trail. From Hill City travel 6 miles on US Highway 16 to the trailhead on your left.
