Event comments

The Homestake Trail Volksmarch: "Two Communities, One Path" celebrates 150 years of Lead and Deadwood with a special joint community event. The walk will begin at the Homestake Trailhead in Lead, SD at 9:00 AM and finish in Deadwood at the Mickelson Trailhead. This is a 3.5 mile (5.633k) trail one way or 7 miles (11.265k) round trip via one of the old Homestake Gold Corporation's railway lines. Participants are invited to continue over to Gordon Park in Deadwood for the Deadwood Trail System Dedication at 11:00 AM. Beginning at Noon, a Chuckwagon Supper will be available for purchase at the park, featuring live cowboy singers. Later in the day, Lead will host Crafts in the Cut, a beer festival taking place at Lead Park throughout the afternoon and evening. Designated parking will be available at Deadwood's Sherman Street Parking Lot, Lead's Gold Run Park Parking Lot, and Lead Park, with additional parking available in nearby residential areas close to the trailhead.
