Event comments

Madison, Georgia, is widely known as a premier historic destination, often cited as one of America's best small towns for its19th-century architecture. Southern Living says this tiny Georgia town is the prettiest in the state. It boasts one of Georgia's largest historic districts, featuring antebellum homes, a charming downtown, and a reputation as a picturesque, walkable community located about 60 miles east of Atlanta. There are numerous antique shops and a good selection of restaurants in downtown Madison. The Madison Morgan Cultural Center is not on the walk, but is a must-see if you have some extra time. The Cultural Center contains a museum depicting the rich history of Madison. Also, there are several old mansions in Madison that offer excellent tours. Try to see Heritage Hall (1811): A premier Greek Revival mansion on Main Street, open Tuesday-Saturday (11 a.m.-4 p.m.) and Sunday (1:30-4:30 p.m.). Tours offer a look at elite antebellum life with period furnishings.Rogers House & Rose Cottage, located near the town square provide a contrast to the larger mansions. The Rogers House (circa 1809) is one of Madison's oldest, while Rose Cottage (1891) was built by a freed slave.
