Event comments
Victorian lakeside village hosts 9-wk summer program of the arts, education & recreation in ecumenical environment. Gave its name to similar cultural programs held all over the US and Canada in the 19th and 20th centuries. Gingerbread-style cottages/charming gardens create living quilt of yesteryear small-town America. Chautauqua Institution is on the Nat'l Register Historic Places. FDR gave his "I hate war" speech here.
