Event comments
Historic village on Black River Bay & Lk. Ontario. Key US military base during the war of 1812. Attacked twice by the British, July 19, 1812 and May 28-29, 1813. British landed 800 marines to attack the base, US defended with 1200 militia. British lost the battle, but accomplished their objective as the US destroyed military supplies and ships under construction fearing their capture. Madison Baracks military post from 1820 to the end of WWII. President Grant stationed here and General Mark Clark (WWII) was born here. Walk goes through the town with many early 1800 buildings, through Madison Barracks, and across the battle field. Zebulon Pike (Pikes Peak) is buried in the military cemetery.

Free parking in the public parking near the Sackets Harbor visitors center, or at the center itself. There is an A award. Contact the POC for details on how to get it. You do NOT have to go into the visitors center to do the walk. Its hours are restricted at this time.
