Altoona was developed in 1849 by the PA Railroad as a staging area for the rail line. The 10k walk will take you to the Altoona Campus of Penn State University passing the Conrail railroad yards (the original rail yards developed) along Chestnut Avenue. Penn State Altoona opened in 1939 and in 1997 became a four-year degree-granting college of the University. The 5k walk passes the Railroad Museum, Boyer Candy outlet and takes you through the downtown streets of Altoona. It includes the special programs Town Halls and Step to the Beat.

Driving to the start box
909 Chestnut Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601. From I-99 (22N) take Exit 33 to 17th Street. Drive approximately 2 miles turning right onto 12th Avenue. At 11th Street make a slight left to Chestnut Avenue. In two blocks, the hotel is on your left.
