GPS: 38.9568382729417, -120.13483109155308. Walk starts at the county bldg; 1594 Esmeralda Ave; Minden, NV. Parking in the hotel lot. Douglas County formed 1861. Named for: Stephen Arnold Douglas (1813–1861), former United States Senator from Illinois. Minden is a unique town among the towns in Nevada, and probably even among towns in the United States. It was mapped and defined on the ground before a building was erected.

Driving to the start box
County building is the Minden Inn; 1594 Esmeralda Ave; Minden, NV. Parking in the hotel lot. GPS: 38.9568382729417, -120.13483109155308. Currently the Minden Inn (1912-1916) serves as offices for Douglas County staff. The lobby is open to visitors during regular business hours. In 1986 the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. From Treasure Island in Las Vegas (7 hours): I-15 north for .6 miles to exit 42A US Hwy 95 north for 410 miles. Just past Walker Lake take ALT US-95 over to US-395 north. Destination will be on the left. Restrooms may not be available, please find a place on the way in.
